Summer is just around the corner and the paddling season is already underway. Now is the perfect time to get into paddling and the Ocean Kayak Frenzy Kayak may be what you are looking for. We took this one out to the ocean off of Cape Cod for a little testing. First, realize that this is a sit-on-top model kayak so you are on top of the kayak, not in a cockpit. Some people prefer the sit-on-top, others a cockpit or sit inside model. Personally, I like to sit within a kayak, not on-top, but both ways are equally as fun (as long as you are kayaking).
The Frenzy may be one of the most stable sit-on-top kayaks I’ve ever been in. We paddled through swells of 4-5 feet with no fear of tipping. The entire boat including the seating area and footings are all molded plastic so I would personally recommend purchasing an add-on padding backrest to make those long days of paddling all the more comfortable. (Comfort Pro Backrest Recommended). As for transport, it’s easy to just throw on top of the car or SUV and bring to the beach. At 43 pounds, it’s not too bad to carry from the car to the water, but they do sell caddies for those interested.
In terms of handling and maneuverability, I found it to be quite maneuverable and easy to paddle even when be sloshed around by the ocean swells. The Ocean Kayak Frenzy is perfect for a day at the beach and would make an ideal family kayak, especially for kids.
Overall, I would rate the Ocean Kayak Frenzy a 4 out of 5. With prices under $500, this is easily one of the best value sit-on-top kayaks on the market and makes for the perfect day of family fun at the beach without the fear of falling in the water.
