I was excited to try out the Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 XL Tandem kayak as I've heard many great reviews. The Malibu 2 XL is a two-person sit-on-top kayak from Ocean Kayak. The big brother of the standard Malibu 2 kayak, it definitely impresses. Unlike many sit-on-top kayaks it features two comfort-plus seats which is always nice for a long day of paddling...especially when you have kids with you.
Speaking of kids, the Malibu 2 XL is what I would describe as the perfect family kayak. It's perfectly sized to handle any array of paddlers from two adults to two kids to one of each. I've even heard of up to three people being on-board at once. You can even go solo and still manage to paddle and maneuver. Additionally, it's very stable and can make a perfect fishing platform for the anglers out there.
It tracks so well and is easier to use than you might expect. It is stable through rapids, maneuverable and very easy to get on and off of...even after a roll. Yet another great feature of the Malibu 2 XL is it's volume. The boat rides high enough out of the water while loaded and is still fast. The only downside I found was it's weight. At just over 60lbs, it's a bit awkward and heavy to move around, but with two adults it's not too bad and with a carrier it’s even easier.
Overall it's probably the best tandem sit-on-top kayak on the market. We give the Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 XL Tandem a 5 out of 5 rating and definitely recommend you check it out for your next kayak purchase!
